Ever since 2006, when Lexus first introduced the LED license plate lights for its popular Lexus IS250 and IS350, this new "fashion trend" has been getting hotter and hotter.
There are two advantages for the LED license plate lights.
First of all, it gives nice white color which gives a nice match with most cars' HID headlights.
Secondly, the White LED license plate light emits a 5000K – 5500K color which is close to the sun light makes the license number easy to read.
After Lexus introduced the LED license plate lights for its whole production lines, BMW has followed up this new trend for its most popular 3 series with white LED license plate lights. In 2010, Mercedes has also adapted this LED license plate lights for its flagship, the S Class.
For cars without the factory equipped LED license plate lights, the aftermarket LED replacement bulbs become the solution.
For more American and Japanese cars, the bulb for the license plate light is 168 or 194 or 2825 wedge shape light bulb. The most common one and the betting fitting ones are the 12-SMD 360 Degrees Shining T10 LED bulbs.
There are 12-pcs super bright SMD SMT LED chips on each light bulb that shine 360 degrees to project light on the license plate nicely.
For more European cars, the bulb for the license plate light is 6418 or 6411 festoon shape light bulb. Since for most European cars, there are on board computer (OBC), therefore in order to change the license plate lights to LED and at the same time, eliminate the error warning showing on dashboard, you will need the Error Free 6418 LED bulbs.
For these Error Free LED bulbs, there are can-bus controllers built-in, therefore they will bypass the on board computer to avoid the warning message about the "bulbs out" displaying on dashboard.
